brave timbers is the solo project of Sarah Kemp, from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. The music fuses violin, piano, tenor guitar and field recordings to produce beautifully mournful, pastoral sounds inspired by living close to the North Sea and the music of Rachel’s, Dirty Three and ‘The Straight Story’ soundtrack.  Sarah also plays in Lanterns on the Lake (Bella Union), and has contributed violin to albums by The Declining Winter, Fieldhead, Memory Drawings, Epic 45 and others.

The debut brave timbers album 'for every day you lost' was released in September 2010 on Second Language Records.  It was made Album of the Week at Norman Records and the current Second Language podcast features live songs and talk.  brave timbers also contributed a track to the sold-out 'Music & Migration' compilation alongside Vashti Bunyan, Peter Broderick and Hauschka.

brave timbers have played shows alongside P. Jorgensen, Epic 45, Seasons (pre-din) and The Declining Winter and supported Amiina in Belgium. View images of that gig here.

The brave timbers track 'there's not much summer left' features on the new Second Language Compilation "Minute Papillon" out now.
